How the score works
You start at 100. Every statement you check costs 1 point.
There is no weighting and no hidden algorithm: 100 statements, 1 point each, 100 minus what you checked. Check every one and you finish on 0. Check nothing and you keep the full 100. A low number means more of the list has happened to you, not that you did anything wrong.
What the number does not measure: it counts experiences you have had, so it says nothing about your character, your values, your health or how good a partner, friend or student you are.

How is the Rice Purity Test scored?
You start at 100 and lose one point for each of the 100 statements you check. A 100 means you checked nothing; a 0 means you checked everything. Nothing is weighted — kissing someone costs exactly as much as an arrest.
What counts as a good Rice Purity Test score?
There is no good side of the scale. A high number usually reflects age and circumstance rather than restraint, and a low number reflects how many of these specific situations you have been in — not judgement, health or character. The only comparison that means much is against people in the same life stage as you.
What is the average Rice Purity Test score?
Averages quoted elsewhere differ wildly because each site draws a different crowd, and most of those numbers have no sample size attached. Ours is recalculated as people finish and is broken down by test on the statistics page.
Who created the Rice Purity Test?
No author and no first edition have ever been documented. Student accounts trace it to Rice University in Houston, handed round on paper during orientation week, but the university never administered it and has no role in the versions circulating today.
Do you save my answers?
Not by default. The checkboxes are handled in your browser; when you finish, it sends two values — the final number and which test it came from — and the server stores those plus the time it wrote the row. No account, no email, no answer-by-answer record. Above the submit button there is one unticked box that also sends the list of statements you checked; ticking it adds those to per-question counters, and even then no row links a set of answers to one person.
Is the Rice Purity Test accurate?
It is an accurate count of boxes you ticked and nothing more. It has no psychometric validation, no control for how people interpret vague items, and no way to tell a genuine answer from a joke one. Read it as a conversation starter, not a measurement.
What the Rice Purity Test actually is
The questionnaire started at Rice University in Houston as a paper survey passed around during orientation week, a way for new students to compare notes without having to say anything out loud. Student accounts place it in circulation by the 1980s, but no first edition with a date on it has ever surfaced, and the university never administered it officially. It spread by photocopier, then by mirrored web pages in the late 1990s, and the wording has drifted at every hop — which is why two sites can hand you two different scores for the same life.
The 100 statements are not a random grab bag. They open on the mildest social firsts — holding hands, a slow dance, a first kiss — with two questions about dating apps and messaging sitting inside that opening block, then move through dating and sexual experience, and finish on nightlife, alcohol and drugs, rule-breaking and encounters with the law. The order matters more than any individual item: because the list is roughly ascending in seriousness, your score encodes roughly how far down the list you have travelled, not which scattered boxes you hit.
The revival is a format story. A purity score is a single integer, which makes it captionable, and it invites the one thing short-form video is built on — someone else replying with theirs. Around 2020 the test became a recurring TikTok bit, then a group activity in dorms and group chats, and the number started being used as shorthand for a whole personality. That last part is where it stops being accurate: the test counts events, and events are not identity.
